How to Enable UCMA Logging on Contact Expert for Skype for Business

The logging of the Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API (UCMA) Runtime library is disabled on the CE Core Hosts by default as it is unnecessary in most cases. However, sometimes it can be useful during an incident investigation or a test.

    Step-by-step guide

Follow the below steps to enable UCMA logging on a Contact Expert for SfB application server:

    1. Log in to the CE Core Host.
    2. Run Command Prompt as Administrator.
    3. Execute the following command to start the logging (replace <UCMA version> appropriately):

      C:\Program Files\Microsoft UCMA <UCMA version>\Runtime\Tracing\OCSTracer.exe start /Component:S4,TL_Verbose

    4. The trace files will be generated in the following folder: C:\Windows\tracing.

    5. Execute the following command to stop the logging:

      C:\Program Files\Microsoft UCMA <UCMA version>\Runtime\Tracing\OCSTracer.exe stop

    6. Use the Snooper tool to open and analyze the generated ETL files. Snooper is included in the SfB Debugging Tools.

Please note that if you need to enable UCMA logging on every Contact Expert application server in a multi-domain or HA CE environment, you must perform these steps on each CE application server.
